PATNA: Taking strong exception to the inspections being conducted by the district education officers (DEOs), regional deputy directors of education and deputy directors of HRD in the constituent colleges and post-graduate departments of different universities, Federation of University Teachers Associations of Bihar (Futab) has urged the chancellor to intervene and save the teachers from humiliation and harassment.
Futab working president K B Sinha said that DEOs of Samastipur and Darbhanga visited R B College, Dalsinghsarai and CM Science College, Darbhanga, recently with an order of HRD directing them to inspect the colleges. Many DEOs have written to different college principals intimating them about their authority to inspect their colleges as and when they desire. A deputy director of HRD inspected Veer Kuar Singh University office and its post-graduate departments few days back. The authority of vice-chancellors and principals is being challenged which is unfortunate, he added.
Sinha said that a delegation of Futab and Fustab, which met the chancellor recently, intimated him about the intention of the HRD to humiliate the university teachers. The delegation was assured by the chancellor that officers whose power are limited to the affairs of schools shall not be allowed to enter colleges for the purpose of inspection, etc.
Futab also expressed its unhappiness over the way the teachers are being treated in this state since 1990. The teachers were much more comfortable during Congress rule as they never felt humiliated. But whatever the teachers had got are being robbed off in a planned manner. The government of late Karpoori Thakur also extended the respect the teachers expected, his magnanimity being unparalleled.
The Futab leaders expressed hope that the political leadership of the state will intervene timely to put a break on the high-handedness of the people entrusted with the task of running the affairs of higher education."
